Harold Schneiderman Playground

Harold Schneiderman (1926 - 1985), was a resident and community activist in Howard Beach where he lived the last 25 years of his life.

Schneiderman was born in Buffalo and came to own over a dozen supermarkets. He was active in about 30 different charitable organizations, including the Cerebral Palsy Telethon, Samaritan Village, Daytop Village, Covenant House, was the president of two synagogues (Springfield Gardens and Rockwood Park) , and was known for his involvement with the local Little League. Most prominently he was the District Deputy Grand Chancellor of Order of Knights of Pythias, a national fraternal organization, where he served on the Board of the Pythian Summer Camp for City Youth, and was one of the founders of the New York State Women’s Chapter of the Pythian Order. He also served on President Kennedy's Council for Physical Fitness. After his death in 1985, the Cross Bay Utopia Lodge Knights of Pythias established the Harold Schneiderman Memorial Fund to continue his charitable work.
