Goldie M. Maple (d. 2003) was a longtime resident and activist in Rockaway, particularly in the field of education. Maple moved to Rockaway in 1958 and became a member of the Tenant’s Association at the Arverne-Edgemere Houses in 1961. She began her school activities in 1973, when, as a parent, she became involved with PS 105 and its parent association. She is also a lifetime member of the NAACP and a founding member of the New Democratic Coalition serving as president from 1982 to 2003. Maple was also a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church as a member of the choir and as the editor of its newsletter.
