I.S. 5 - The Walter Crowley Intermediate School

Walter H. Crowley (1932-1985) was a member of the City Council from Elmhurst, Queens. Mr. Crowley was active in the Democratic Party since 1968, and was elected by the Council in January of 1985, to succeed Thomas J. Manton, who had been elected to the House of Representatives. 

Mr. Crowley, a lawyer, was born in Queens and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood. He received bachelor's and law degrees from St. John's University. He was in the Army Reserve from 1958 to 1964 and was a member of the City University's board of trustees from 1976 to 1980. He was survived by his wife Mary and 15 children.
