Philip H.L. Meyer (d. 1929) was an officer in the NYPD who died of natural causes while on patrol.
Meyer joined the force on July 14, 1909, and served at the Wilson Avenue station house that is now home to the 83rd Precinct. On June 19, 1929, the 44-year-old Meyer was on patrol at Knickerbocker and Stanhope, when he passed away. The doctor who came with the ambulance cited the cause of death as heart disease. He was survived by his wife, Frieda, and their daughter, Eleanor.
Meyer had lived at 72-38 Dill Place, now known as 61st Street in Glendale. City Councilmember Robert Holden supported the co-naming of this street in his honor in December 2023.
His brother, Henry E.A. Meyer, was also a member of the police department. He was shot and killed while he was off duty on September 16, 1927. The corner of 80th Avenue and Cypress Hills Street has been co-named in his honor.
