FDNY Lieutenant Michael R. Davidson (1981-2018) was fighting a five-alarm blaze on the Manhattan set of the movie "Motherless Brooklyn" when he became trapped and ran out of air. He died at Harlem Hospital after being pulled from the burning unoccupied building on Saint Nicholas Avenue near 148th Street.
Davidson worked his entire 15-year career at Engine Company 69, Ladder 28 in Harlem, the same house where his father spent his 26-year career. His community in Harlem was almost like a second home to the married father of four from Floral Park, New York.
Davidson was born and raised in Sunnyside in the Phipps Housing Complex across the street from the playground now dedicated to him. In addition to his firefighter father, Davidson's brother is also in the FDNY.
