I.S. 77 in Ridgewood, Queens was renamed for its former principal and Superintendent Joseph F. Quinn (1941-2020) on October 20, 2021.

Born in Brooklyn, Quinn was remembered at the renaming ceremony as a "formidable, unforgettable leader" who put children and the community ahead of all else.

Following a long career in education, he retired as school superintendent of Queens' District 24 and as an Adjunct Professor at Fordham University, which was his alma mater. Quinn also served on the School Board of District 13 in Valley Stream, where he lived at the time of his passing on December 26, 2020.
