Anthony Leo Placella, a native of Long Island City, served in the US Army's 4th Infantry Division in World War I. He died of bronchio-pneumonia abroad on October 16, 1918, twenty-six days before Armistice and the end of the war. This park has since been renamed Sixteen Oaks Grove.
